Charlie is a 21 month old 45lb. black/white springer who came into foster care in July because his owner couldn’t handle his separation anxiety. He is a beautiful, healthy, smart boy who is eager to learn and loves to play and swim. He will need an adopter willing to work with a behaviorist/trainer to help him. Charlie must be the only dog/pet in an adult only home. He will need his human to be with him almost all of the time, so a work-from-home, stay-at-home, or retired adopters may be best. If you have the time and desire to work with a dog with these challenges, Charlie needs you.

COURTESY POSTING - RILEY IS A SPANIEL MIX -approx 20 lbs.
Meet Riley! He was adopted from Canine Commitment of New England as a pup and recently returned for not getting along with the other pets in the home (a cat and bunny). Riley is a Cocker Spaniel mix and almost 2 years old. Riley is crate trained, house broken, walks well on a leash, neutered and up to date on all his vaccines. We are looking for a calm home for Riley and no other pets. Riley gets along with other dogs but would do best in a home as an only. We would like Riley to go to a home with someone experienced in the Cocker Spaniel breed or previously owned one. His rehome fee is $150. Email melissa@caninecommit.org with any questions. Applications available through our website at www.caninecommit.org

Ozzie! Ozzie is a 5 year old 49 lb liver & white springer boy who came to us here at NEESSR because of some challenging behaviors he exhibited in his prior home. He has been in his foster home now for a few weeks and was recently treated to a session with a canine behaviorist. At her recommendation, Ozzie will be going to obedience training to help overcome his reactive protective behavior. He needs a lot of basic training work so when he displays unwanted behaviors he can be more easily redirected to acceptable behaviors. His foster dad reports “Ozzie is a very sweet, loyal companion with very nice house manners. No destructive behavior, counter- surfing limited to leafy green vegetables, completely fine when left free in the home, fine with visitors, and completely house trained, even the first day in a new home. He loves his people and affection.”

Ozzie did very well in his basic skills classes and is ready to go!
***Looking for an adult-only family with no other dogs to adopt Ozzie. They must be committed to ongoing positive training to continue the work we’ve started. Ozzie will make a wonderful addition to the right family. A foster-to-adopt situation would be considered.

If you are interested in Ozzie, please check out NEESSR adoption policies and application at: http://essrescue.org/adoptionprocess.html

RUSTY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
This handsome 48 lb boy is 8 years old. His foster family reports that he is a very nice happy-go-lucky guy, interested in everything and he has a very sweet demeanor. Rusty seeks attention and affection from his family. He walks nicely on a leash, enjoys car rides and loves his food! He is crate trained.

Rusty has been exhibiting undesireable behaviors towards another male dog in his foster home. Just to be on the safe side, Rusty will only be available for adoption to a family with no other dogs in the home. Whereas this boy does crave attention, an ideal adopter would be home a good deal of the time. If this describes you - Rusty could be your springer! If you already have an approved adoption application on file with NEESSR, please call your adoption coordinator. If not, please complete our application found at: http://essrescue.org/adoptionapplication.html

We are so happy to announce that Delilah has been adopted. She is a young fieldy who needed medical attention AND needed lots of training. She was extremely fearful and reactive when she first came to her NEESSR foster home. Her foster family did a great deal of work with her to get Delilah to the point where she was ready to move into a permanant home. The training will be continued as well as agility work to keep this smart and energetic girl happy.

Max is a 5 year old liver and white ESS and has just arrived at his NEESSR foster home. Max is a big boy and is on a slim-down plan with lots of excercise in his foster home. Updates will be provided as soon as possible.

05/08 - Max's foster family worked with a behaviorist and made tremendous progress with his more undesirable behaviors. He now has very nice manners and is happily settled in his forever home!

October 2015 - ROWDY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

ROWDY WANTS TO BE THE ONLY DOG WITH A FAMILY THAT IS HOME A LOT! HE IS READY TO GO AND WAITING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME:
Rowdy is a very handsome 9 year old 43 lb black/white tri boy who would like to be the only dog in a family who is home a great deal. He walks nicely on a leash and has good recall. No surprise – because he always wants to be by your side! Rowdy wins the Velcro springer award. He is accustomed to being in his crate when left alone. He’ll happily clear your counters of anything edible (or not) – so care must be taken in that department.

Rowdy doesn't care for loud noises and he can be testy with other dogs, especially males. He had a seizure many years ago – and has been on phenobarbital ever since. No reports of additional seizures. A loving household that can provide Rowdy with a great deal of attention should look no further. Rowdy is looking for you.

CHLOE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

4/25/15 CHLOE IS LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME! She has been with her foster family for over a month now – and has made tremendous progress. Its time to start from scratch in describing Chloe, because her foster family now sees a new and more confident dog.

Chloe is a super sweet 38 lb 8.5 year old black/white tri springer. She is truly a cuddlebug – but her foster dad warns you that she is a bed hog! She loves to play “Fetch the Ball”, returning happily, eager to play again. She walks nicely on a leash and has good recall. Not surprising because the most important thing in Chloe’s life (besides food) is being close to her people.

Although she is extremely loving and affectionate with her people, she does not do well with other dogs. We are looking for an adult-only adoptive family who is home a lot. No other pets in the home are a must! A retired person or someone who works from home and can spend time with Chloe need look no further for the perfect companion

Ruben is a two-year-old boy who came to NEESSR two months ago - an exceptionally timid dog. His foster family has been diligently working to help him overcome his fears and develop confidence. At this time he is comfortable and loved in his foster home. We are happy to announce that Ruben has found his permanent home - and will be adopted by his NEESSR foster family. We'd like to share their thoughts. Here is "Ruben's Story"

Ruben is still a very sensitive dog who needs a slow introduction to people, dogs and things in his environment, but his progress thus far has been astounding! His gentle and endearing nature makes him a wonderful companion to his family and housemate, Gemma, a 2-year-old golden retriever. During Ruben’s first few weeks in foster care he often hid in the yard and had to be coaxed into the house; once inside he stayed in his crate or retreated to a quiet place in the house away from the family. When confronted with a situation he was unable to handle, Ruben crouched on the floor and froze in place.

With the help of a trainer and the support of NEESSR members several training techniques were employed to help him approach family members and ease his fears, which were not necessarily predictable. Despite his fearful nature, it was amazing that he weathers thunderstorms and the lawnmower noise with barely a notice.

After 4 weeks, Ruben was finally adventuresome enough to pick up his first dog toy and a whole new world opened up for him! The emergence of playful behavior led to modified games of fetch and find toys and frequent romps in the garden with Gemma. As he feels more safe in his home, the fearful behaviors he exhibits are diminishing. Ruben is growing in confidence when faced with visits from friends and family, to include three grandchildren. Everyone is respectful of Ruben’s space and he able to approach guests on his terms in slow and cautious manner, even to the point of climbing into a lap from time to time. His progress outside of the home is slow, but continual. Ruben is still unsuccessful at leaving the house without Gemma as a buffer on his walks in the neighborhood and local park. Ruben still needs time and a great deal more training, but judging from the past few weeks he’s well on his way to many more tail wagging adventures.

Colin is a 9-year-old 43 lb boy. Because of his high energy level, Colin would do well in a family with teenagers, but not younger children.

Intelligent, Athletic, Endearing describes the cutest Springer ever brought into NEESSR care! That’s our Colin. Recovered from his surgery and given a complete bill of health from our veterinarian, Colin has shown us that he is ready for his next big adventure. A wonderful forever home with an active family that enjoys walks and active playtime would be Colin’s preference. Showing off his intelligence, Colin has a wide understanding of human language. Eager to please with a willingness to learn he responds well to direction. He has a great ability to learn any trick.

Being an energetic dog, Colin is not one to sleep all day and be still all night. As an older but still very active 9 yr old, this boy can keep up with his 6 yr old foster brother in the play yard for sure. Like any energetic athlete he does need his daily exercise. Walks and playing ball are a must. After a round of active play, Colin can be content to lie at your feet when you are working on the computer or relaxing watching TV. He will engage in any activity that includes a human and of course a ball. With his own people to love, and proper attention and direction Colin would make a great companion for a family. Cocoa is a five year old boy who just arrived at his NEESSR foster home. He is presently at the vets to get a complete physical and also for neutering. He has a history of stomach problems that we will address while he is in foster care. Until yesterday Cocoa was pretty much of an "outside" dog. His foster family will be working on helping him become an "inside" dog. We expect it will take quite a bit of time to get him acclimated to living in a house as well as getting to the root of his stomach issues so this boy can be on his way to his forever home.

06/09 - Cocoa has been in his foster home for almost two weeks now. Here is what he has to say: Cocoa is my name and playing is my game! I could play fetch with a ball or toy all day. I like to go for walks and smell everything. I like to have my head and back scratched and to have my fur brushed. I’ve had an issue with my stomach, but my foster mom and vet are helping me and I am getting better everyday. When I feeling 100% - my foster mom will be able to tell everyone lots more about me and then I can be adopted!
